Help Los Angeles (and learn naming)
Every dollar from class sales through the end of Feb goes to my hometown
I’m not going to do any weird LinkedIn-style acrobatics here to make this a lesson about naming.
I don’t even know where to start. I’ll start with what’s hardest, I guess.
Thousands of people in Los Angeles, where I grew up, have lost the things that make a place home. Shelter. Schools. Parks. Everything.
As of my writing, the losing hasn’t stopped.
Dozens of friends had to evacuate. A few of them don’t have a house to go back to. Most aren’t sure what, exactly, comes next. This is the story for thousands and thousands and thousands more people.
My little brother texted me last Wednesday night to let me know the Hollywood Hills had just caught on fire. He’d just moved over the hill into Burbank with his girlfriend at the end of last year, but he sent me a picture from where he used to live, on Sunset in Hollywood, where the flames in the hills looked like they were coming up from behind the building behind his.
Places I’ve known my whole life disappeared last week.
With a country between me and the impact of these fires, I’ve been feeling especially helpless. I’m donating directly to friends’ recovery efforts, but I wanted to see whether the naming community had interest in supporting additional fundraising.
So here goes:
100% of self-guided class sales from now until February 28 will go straight to Direct Relief’s California Wildfire Response
Check out the full class list here.
Individual classes:
Plus, for everyone who signs up for a self-guided class between now and the end of February, I’ll host an office-hour/live Q&A session in the first week of March. Bring your naming problems and we will trouble shoot them together.
Improve your naming skills or give the gift of naming, and help get aid to people impacted by these fires.
All my love to everyone making their way through this right now,
Caitlin
