The Business of Naming: A conference for people who make a living making names
We stopped asking "What *if* there were a conference for namers" and just planned one
Launching the first-ever (???) conference for people who make a living making names.
The question: Why the hell isn’t there a ~thing~ of some kind for namers to get together, learn from each other, and celebrate great naming work?
I’ve talked about it many, many times over the years. Probably with some of you reading this.
Thanks to the partnership of naming great Nina Beckhardt of The Naming Group (meet her here on this ep of Big Names in Naming), we’re doing it.
And you’re invited.
Join us for a gathering of the world’s best and brightest in naming to talk about the unique work we do: from creating community to keeping up with technology while staying creative (and competitive) to running the business of it all.
October 3, 2025 in Berkeley California from 12-6pm.
This will be a packed day of talks by some of my favorite namers of all time, exercises, breakout groups, and time alongside the naming community: Freelancers, founders, in-house naming leads, strategists, lawyers, linguists, creative directors, and anyone whose day-to-day work touches naming.
Attendance is capped at 50. You’ll get a chance to actually meet everyone (and you should RSVP today).
🐤 🚨🔥 Early Bird Pricing $250 (Ends June 7) 🔥🚨🐤
You can buy tickets right now, right here.
Or you can learn more about the speakers and venue on The Business of Naming website. Speakers’ topics will be announced soon!
Very excited see/meet so many of you in person this fall!
With excitement,

All typos are left in to humanize me 🤪
That sounds great! I'll email you
Hi Caitlin - this is exciting! Have you got someone on the panel whose expertise is personal names? I've been doing that work for over a decade and have a doctorate in the sociology of naming from UCB. Would love to chat.
